Google Trends Before going to talk about Google Keyword Planner, we would like to introduce you to Google Trends. Although this is not a Keyword Research Tool but it gives you idea of Currently Trending Search Terms in Google. For Bloggers, this is a valuable tool to know which topics are currently trending and doing keyword research on those topics to find out more suitable keyword will helpful in gaining good traffic. It is also helpful for people who wants to do Event based Blogging. Google Trends also shows the collective number of searches for a search term e.g. Christmas Day 100,000+ Searches Google Keyword Planner The is one of the most widely used Keyword research tools. It will vary depending upon the Customization, Targeting and Filters you have chosen. Generally we look for a keyword having higher number of average monthly searches. This is because we want more traffic. If we successfully rank our website in Google for a keyword then a keyword having higher number of average monthly searches will bring a more traffic than a keyword having low number of searches. Competition Competition is determined by the fact that how many people are targeting this keyword with the paid advertisements in Google. If too many people are targeting a keyword then it will be high competition keyword as many people are competing for this keyword. Apple Iphone 6 is just launched a couple of months ago so a lot of websites are offering it for sale, others have written reviews on it, some are offering downloadable apps, some are offering its wallpapers and some websites are just giving the price and specifications only. It shows results in various columns including Keyword Summary and CPC Distribution, Trends, Phrase Match Report, Related Keyword Report, Organic Search Results and Ads Report. The free version will return only a few numbers of Keywords. To Do proper Keyword Research with SEMRush You need to get access to the complete features of the site by buying one of their package. You can get far more keywords i.e. Phrase Match Reports keywords than the Google Keyword Planner and Keyword Revealer which returns the data of only 801 Keywords at maximum at a time. 4. Keyword Spy Keyword Spy is also a good tool for Keyword Research. It gives much information including Ads, Related Keywords, Similar Keywords (Long tail) spelling variations, PPC Competitors and Organic Competitors. It is a good keyword research tool that gives valuable insights but accuracy of the data is questionable. Therefore decisions must not be made upon the basis of results of KeywordSpy. Other tools must also be used in order to get accurate statistics for the desired keywords. Apart from these online tools there a lot of others. Some are just crap and time wasting with no real use while some others paid tools are worth using like Wordstream and wodtracker. Now we will discuss some software packages that give more in-depth details for the keywords. These software tools also use data from major search engines. In most of the tools you need to upload keywords extracted from Google Keyword Planner etc or you need to input your Google Account Login details and it extracts data from your Google Adwords’ Keyword Planner tool. After getting long tail keywords fetched by soovle.com you can check their monthly searches, CPC and competition by uploading them to Google Keyword Planner or Market Samurai. This will make it even easier for you to analyze the keywords based on actual search engines and to choose a suitable keyword. Market Samurai Market Samurai is the wonderful software for Keyword research. This is not only a Keyword Research tool but also Robust SEO software that can be used to Analyze Competition, Track the rankings, Analyzing domains Content Finding, Content Publishing etc. We will discuss about its use for Keyword Research. When You Enter your base keywords in it then Market samurai Keyword Research tool finds the keywords from Google Keyword Planner. (You need to enter you Google ID and Password to allow Market Samurai to do so). Then It shows the results as below: Total Searches: These are average Number of searches that are daily recorded. SEO Traffic (SEOT): The number of visitors that a number 1 Ranked website for this keyword can potentially achieve. Phrase to Broad (PBR): The percentage of phrase matched searches of this keyword to its Broad matched searches SEO Comp (SEOC): The number of indexed webpages in google that contain the same keyword in same order Title Competition (SEOTC) : The number of webpages that contain the same keyword in the Title. Title/Comp (SEOTCR) : It is the ratio of Title competition to SEO Competition. The lower number indicates that there is a less competition. Adwords Traffic (AWT): The total number of clicks per day one can get by advertising on a keyword. Adwords CTR (AWCTR): The total number of clicks per when someone advertises on a keyword from that total search traffic for that keyword. Adwords CPC (AWCPC): It is the cost per click one needs to pay in order to advertise for this keyword on Google Adwords. As a general rule, Keywords with the Keyword Competition less than 40 are to be chosen because keywords with the High Competition are always difficult to rank. Analyzing the Competitors In order to Analyze your competitors you need to enter your MOZ Account API and Secret Key. Long Tail Pro fetches Data from MOZ and displays results. For any Keyword Long Tail Pro will display the SEO information of Top 10 currently ranked competitors. It includes Keyword Competition (KC) Page Authority (PA) Domain Authority (DA) Page Links (Backlinks) Juice Page links (Backlinks that actually passes link juice) Page Rank (PR) MOZ Rank and Site Age. Step by Step Guide to Keyword Research In the previous Chapters we have learned about Keywords, their structure, about Keyword Research and about Keyword Research tools. Here in this chapter we are going to learn performing keyword research step by step So Let’s Start. Step 1: Make a List of Important Topics Here in the first step you need to make a list of important topics that are related to your business/website. Use the option “only show ideas closely related to my search terms”. This will exclude the irrelevant Keywords from the list. Now Press ‘Get Ideas’ and then Keyword Ideas. Here you can see a list of keywords. Click on Average Monthly Searches to sort the keywords in descending order with respect to Total No. of Monthly searches. Here we see a list of Keywords. As a general rule, we are going to Neglect Keywords with High Competition and focusing only on the Medium and Low competition keywords. These are the potential keywords. Here we can choose any keyword. After analyzing the competition on these Keyword manually then decision making process will be started. Open (http://keywordrevealer.com) and login. Click on Keyword Tool and enter the selected keyword and press enter. Here we see the Average Monthly Searches and Average CPC similar to the Google Keyword Planner. Now click on Evaluate next to the keyword. You see that the 1st ranked website is a Page Rank 5 website while 5 websites out of top 10 sites have PR 4+. One Important thing to note here is that we have chosen a Long tail Keyword here. It is easy to rank. Keyword must appear in H1, H2 and H3 Headings. (In wordpress the title is generally a H1 Heading and therefore using keyword in H2 and H3 heading is recommended 4. Keyword must appear in initial 50 words of the article. 5. It must also be present in every paragraph preferably in first or second line. 6. Content Length must be 500+ words. 7. Main Keyword must be BOLD or Italicized once in the article. It helps search engines to understand the most important words in an article. 8. Try to use main keyword in the Title Tag and ALT Tag of each image uploaded. It helps in better Search Engine Optimization of your webpage. 9. The article must be written for the Humans and not for algorithms and machines. Therefore focus more on quality while taking care of the above mentioned factors. 10. Use simple language so that readers coming from every part of the world can read it and once they really understand it then there is high chance of user engagement. 11. Keywords must be dispersed evenly throughout the article or webpage. Using keywords more than 2 times in a paragraph may lead to keyword stuffing and that is a sign of web spam. So avoid it.
